1. 1. Patient metric integrityDoes this model need TBW, IBW or ABW? Never enter TBW into an unmodified adult Marsh pump for an obese patient.
2. 2. Target modePlasma (Cp) or effect-site (Ce)? Ce 4.0 gives a fast, large bolus; Cp 4.0 gives a slower, smoother ramp.
3. 3. Syringe concentrationPump setting matches the syringe: propofol 1% (10 mg/mL) vs 2% (20 mg/mL).
4. 4. Independent lineDedicated cannula with anti-siphon / anti-reflux valve. Dead-space boluses cause dangerous swings.
5. 5. Neurophysiological checkModels are population averages. Use the frontal EEG (alpha, delta, no burst suppression) as real-time feedback.
